Note: this is not part of the national week of action, which is typically in May of each year. It is an early action alert for an Iowa baby box bill.
Current Action: NO on HF425
Email Iowa state senators asking them to vote NO on HF425 when it comes before them today on the Senate floor.
Iowa House File 425 is a baby box bill. It will allow installation of “newborn safety devices” throughout the state. Baby boxes are legalized anonymous baby abandonment where the identity and heritage of the child is erased. They are also instruments that will lead to increased anonymous trafficking of infants for adoption. As Marley Greiner of Stop Safe Haven Baby Boxes states, baby boxes:
are a direct attack on adoptee civil rights, fathers’ rights, and ICWA, and subvert the civil rights of adopted people current and future. They fly in the face of contemporary child welfare practice. Email Iowa senators TODAY asking them to vote NO on HF425 when it comes before them on the Senate floor.

Dear Senator:
I am [an Iowa constituent][adopted person][other details]. I request a NO VOTE on HF425, the state’s version of a “baby box” bill. Baby boxes have been rejected by child welfare experts as gimmicks that do not address the underlying causes of infant abandonment, which is already exceedingly rare. The expansion of baby boxes in the state will also increase and facilitate the trafficking of infants for adoption.
I ask for your NO VOTE on HF425.

Adoption in and of itself is trauma enough without knowing or finding out about this little coercive tactic .Better idea is to provide minimalistic safe space for mother and child.
