Areas suffering from medical deserts, especially those with little or no OB/GYN services, are vulnerable communities for Safe Haven Baby Box campaigns, so it is no surprise that many boxes are located in rural or small towns that lack comprehensive healthcare. At the moment, however, it appears that SHBB Inc does not explicitly target those areas. This, of course, can change. Currently, boxes are doled out on a first-come-first-serve basis. Anyone can start a campaign and raise funds to pay for lease and installation and can obtain a box when finances and installation procedures plans are in place. (Fundraising and installation in theory must follow SHBB Inc rules and state regulations.)
Below is a list by state and then city/county of known proposed/approved baby box locations or locations where fundraising campaigns are active. Certainly, there are more locations that we don’t know about. This information is taken from news articles, press releases, and social media and will be updated frequently.
On June 6, 2024, Monica Kelsey said they there are 60 new boxes “out there” in various stages of testing.
