So far, Florida has not developed a grant system that lets the state pay at least partial baby box expenses, but down the road, it could. I don’t know how this will play out for future mandated baby boxes in Marion County, except that county, city, or township taxpayers will foot the bill for something currently marketed as “free. ” Of course, each fire station could apply for private non-profit foundation grants, hold bake sales and chicken dinners, and rattle the can door-to-door, but that’s unlikely. Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter where public funding comes from. SHBB Inc would be taking public money when Mrs Kelsey says it doesn’t.
The Safe Haven Baby Box Hotline Costs How Much???!!!
Is Monica Kelsey, CEO-Founder of SHBB Inc, claiming that her hotline will shut down, babies will die, and “desperate moms” will go to jail or worse unless her groupies divvy up a bag full of hard cash? Initially, I thought that this claim was simply a rhetorical device to drum up the mostly well-intentioned and gullible, but I repeat: Every $100 keeps our hotline open for another day.
Safe Have Baby Boxes Inc: The Numbers Jumble
The Safe Haven Baby Box Inc’s box numbering system has bugged us for a long time. When the baby abandonment company started its project, it listed each box by number and location, on its website. It was easy to read. A couple of years ago, TPTB replaced this simple utilitarian list with a messy “interactive map that forces anyone searching for location information to navigate their way through pesky orange circles and thumbtack thingees splattered over the screen.
Maine: Rumford Getting Safe Haven Baby Box for No Actual Reason
Rumford, Maine, is scheduled to be the first town in the state to open a Safe Haven Baby box, but fire chief Chris Reed, who believes it is essential for the town to have one, admits that Maine has no known abandoned newborn problem:
Beebe, Arkansas: More Public Funding for a”Free” Safe Haven Baby Box
This time: Taxpayers in Beebe, Arkansas (population 8,437) ) are about to be dunked for $11,730 to lease a Safe Haven Baby Box of their very own–a device that Safe Haven Baby Boxes Inc founder/CEO Monica Kelsey claims ad infinitum is privately funded by donors. No tax lists need apply.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes Inc: Thy Name is Vulgarity–Again!
Imagine the uproar if baby box opponents–bastards, adoption reformers, child welfare professionals, and scholars, and trad SH advocates– routinely discussed their underwear malfunctions or “better yet,” their lack of underwear.
North Carolina v Safe Haven Baby Boxes Inc: the Battle Heats Up
Discussing her legislative impasse on social media, Mrs Kelsey complains that the legislature just hasn’t caught up with her technology. IOW, North Carolina lawmakers are a bunch of Foghorn Leghorn Luddites.
Week of June 24-27, 2025: Safe Haven Baby Boxes Inc Runs Amok!
Things have been pretty quiet the last couple of weeks, with zero-1-2 Safe Haven Baby box openings. Now that summer is officially here, though, the SHBB industry is bursting with energy and running amok throughout the country. This week, 8 boxes will go into operation. Yes! 8 boxes!
The Devil’s Dance: Safe Haven Baby Boxes Inc Celebrates New Box Opening with a Twerk
To celebrate the opening of the county’s 345th baby abandonment box (#147 in Indiana) –(Bloomington Fire Station #2, 209 S Fairfield Drive), someone decided it was a good idea to do a happy dance to commemorate the occasion and post it on TikTok. (We can guess who!)
New York State Gets Baby Abandonment Box Bill: Albany is Not Hoosierville.
While other states are closing their sessions for the year, New York plows ahead. We missed the bill drop in Albany a few weeks ago of companion baby box measures…We’ll be watching New York carefully. It could be fun watching Mrs Kelsey attempt to mingle with the Albany gang. Albany is not Hoosierville.
