No! Hundreds of Babies Have NOT Been “Saved” in Safe Haven Baby Boxes in Indiana

Reviewing the news we missed during our Covid (or whatever) hiatus we’ve discovered all sorts of misinformation, disinformation, and downright lies regarding Safe Haven Baby Boxes. We probably won’t cover them all, but this is one so blatant that we can’t let it go.

During an interview with KVUE-TV, SHBB Inc pusher Brooke Waugh formerly of Indiana, now a resident of Travis County Texas, said:

“I think it’s going to make a huge difference. You can see the hundreds of babies that have been saved in Indiana over the years since the boxes have been live. And just the impact it has on the community,” *

MEOW!!!!! Even disregarding the disputable “saved” narrative, the idea of hundreds of Indiana babies captured by Safe Haven Baby Boxes Inc is an out-of-and-out lie that demands retraction.

Despite Ms Waugh’s claim, even her guidinglight, Monica Kelsey, founder/CEO of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, who tends to tease numbers (but not that much!), reports a total of 52 baby box cases in the US since 2017. Currently, SSHBBN has recorded 45 cases that we can verify through various sources; thus, 7 cases nationwide are unreported by SHBB Inc, the media, or appropriate state agencies.

As for Indiana’s “hundreds” of “saved babies,” we can account for 28 cases (including one baby that was returned to his parents). We haven’t seen the latest number put out by SHBB Inc.

The discrepancy in numbers does not mean that 52 cases have not occurred, only that 7 cases are not acknowledged publicly and makes us wonder. We are not asking for details; only some reliable proof that they happened and are not the product of fat fingers on the keyboard or Mrs. Kelsey’s Margarita habit. (Beyond the Box, July 24, 2021)

Our response to the bizarre claim that “hundreds” of newborns have been “saved” (from what?) in Indiana by baby boxes might seem nitpicky. But for 7 years we’ve watched one “fact” after another, start in one news article then spread across the country. No fact-checking and no questions are asked in the weird “telephone game” played by SHBB Inc and the media–esepcially local media.

We want this on the record: Whatever is the correct number, there is no way that hundreds of newborns have been boxed or traditionally safe havened anywhere, much less in one state, with the helping hand of Mrs Kelsey. But then, we are accustomed to witnessing SHBB Inc mis- and disinformation, and worse thrown around the internet. In an age where politics has been so degraded that the guy who tells the most lies wins, we aren’t surprised.
